Backup-aware Software (Data Owner)
The data to be backed up or restored on a phone is owned by an application or a server, which is often referred to as a data owner or data owner software. During backup and restore, the Backup Engine asks for the data from data owner software. To make the software backup-aware (ready to provide data), application developers must know the following concepts and requirements:
- Backup and Restore Types
Backup works by copying files (installed applications, Secure ID and data) from a Symbian device to a PC. Restore works by copying previously backed up files from the PC to the Symbian device. This section describes the different types of backup and restore.
- File locks
The backup and restore depends on copying files when required. During a normal phone usage, a range of servers and applications have files open to read or write. If a file is locked, it cannot be copied. This section describes file locks for public and private data, and for different applications.
- Public and Subscribe Events for Backup and Restore
This section describes the subscribe and publish flag for backup and restore.
