This category refers to Standard, or Open, C/C++, as opposed to Symbian C++.
Symbian itself is written in its own dialect of C++ which was designed for low memory, low power devices designed to run indefinitely. Early versions of Symbian OS were not compatible with Standard C/C++ which meant that porting anything but the most trivial software required rewriting it and sometimes completely redesigning it.
Recent versions of Symbian OS (from v9) and the Symbian platform are largely compatible with Standard C/C++.
