Location Based Services
(LBS) Guide
The Location Acquisition API is the interface that programmers use to create
location-aware applications. The API gives developers the ability to get location
fixes and to obtain information about the positioning technologies available
to the mobile device.
- LBS Quick Start
Location Based Services (LBS) provides location information for installed applications and for remote services via a network. Location information can be used for location stamping artefacts such as photographs and memos, finding nearby services and facilities, navigation, and the ability for remote parties to discover the user's whereabouts.
- Location Based Services Concepts
This section provides concept material that relates to the Location Based Services module.
- LBS Architecture Overview
This document describes the major components and interfaces of the Symbian platform Location Based Services (LBS) subsystem. It is intended to give device creators an appreciation of the LBS subsystem architecture. It also provides links to other documentation that provides more detailed information about the LBS components and APIs.
- LBS Integration and Configuration Guide
The documents in this section describe the tasks necessary to build and configure the LBS subsystem. These documents are for device creators.
- Location Request Management
The Location Request Management collection contains components that handle requests for location request information both from installed applications and from the network.
- Location Management
The Location Management collection contains components to manage location requests and to interface with a network. It also contains several common core LBS libraries that are used by many components of the LBS subsystem.
- Network Adaptation
The Network Adaptation collection contains Protocol Module ECOM plug-ins that can be used by the Network Gateway to support location and privacy requests.
- Data Source Adaptation
The Data Source Adaptation collection contains an API and a test component used to create Positioning Module Plug-ins (PSYs).
- Data Source Modules
The Data Source Modules collection contains components that enable the LBS subsystem to obtain position data.
